BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Children’s Play
This course has the equivalent UCAS points of one A Level. It will give a firm grounding in the care, education and development of children from birth to 7 years 11 months. Students will learn the stages of physical, cognitive, language, emotional and social development that most children go through, as well as gaining an understanding of A-typical development. Students will experience how these stages are used along with the National Curriculum, by Early Years practitioners and Primary school teachers, to plan activities to enable children’s progression.
Students will study the theories of how children learn and how these theories are used in the primary or early years classroom to aid young children’s learning and development. There will be opportunities to plan activities, gaining an understanding of child-initiated learning and adult-led activities. Students will experience 10 days practical placement in either an early years or primary setting, where they can deliver their planned activities to the children.
This course is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue careers in Early Years setting, Primary teaching or teaching assistant, Social work, Nursing or Play Therapy.
An Enhanced DBS is a requirement for the course.
